Kielbasa & Cabbage Recipe

Kielbasa and cabbage has been the mainstay of Polish cooking for generations. The nutrition from this staple can tide you over a long winter or even comfort loved ones through an cold.

Prep: 15 Min Cook Time: 45 min Serves: 2

Ingredients

  • 1 sliced large onion
  • 1 teaspoon of caraway seed
  • 2 tablespoons bacon drippings
  • 2 pounds sliced cabbage
  • 1 pound sliced kielbasa
  • 2 tablespoons flour
  • 1 teaspoon honey
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • salt to taste

    Directions

    • boil cabbage in saucepan with water
    • add caraway seeds
    • cover and simmer 12 min
    • in seperate pan 
    • one tablespoon of bacon drippings
    • fry sliced onion till gold not brown
    • add rest of bacon drippings and sausage
    • fry for 5 min
    • add flour
    • combine cabbage and sausage
    • low simmer 15 min
    • add small amount of cabbage water to boil
    • add salt, honey and lemon juice
    • served with boiled /sliced potatoes and dill
    • boil out till preferred consistency
