Called, “Kasza Manna” in Polish, semolina is another popular Polish groat used in Polish cuisine. It has a creamy-white color, a sweetish taste and delicate flavor. It is one of the wheat groats obtained from common wheat and is very fine grained and loose. Often consumed as a porridge it is also frequently used for desserts or as a breakfast food. Very easily digestible it makes for a light ingredient in any dish (great for children!). Not only that, it provides nutritional value in the form of protein, fiber B vitamins, and minerals.

Preparation: Semolina can be prepared stirred into a pot of cold water or milk.

1. Pour it into boiling water / milk - 1 cup of semolina: 3 cups of liquid. Lightly salt the water (half a flat teaspoon of salt should be enough) and add oil (1 tablespoon per 100 g of groats).

2. Stir until the water boils again.

3. Cook for a very short time - even 2-4 minutes are enough. Begin counting the cook time from the moment the water boils again. Do not mix the porridge while it’s cooking! Cook covered, with the lid slightly open. The groats will be ready when the grains have absorbed all the water.
