Red Barszcz + Uszka = Perfect Pair
To save your time and make you enjoy the holiday season we decided to pair must-have products on Christmas.
Uszka, "little ears" in Polish, are handmade small dumplings usually filled with mushroom, sauerkraut and mushroom or meat. They are usually served with barszcz, though they can be eaten alone.
Red Beet Barszcz is one of the most traditional Polish soups. This elegant, clear burgundy soup has an earthy beet flavor, which we enhanced with just the right sweet, sour, and wine tones as well as highlights of mushroom flavor. Distinctive, and unforgettable!
Weight: uszka (1lb), red barszcz (bottle, 26oz), Serves (3-4)
Ingredients
Uszka: Enriched wheat flour (wheat flour, malted barley flour, niacin, iron, thiamin mononitrate, riboflavin, folic acid), fresh mushrooms, water, onions, soybean oil, liquid whole eggs, egg whites, cracker meal (wheat flour), salt, garlic, pepper, rice flour.
Red Barszcz: Water, Beets, Vegetable Broth, Salt, Pepper
Cooking Instructions
Red Barszcz: Ideally pull your frozen soup from the freezer about 24 hours before you want to use it. Let the soup thaw in the fridge and then reheat in the microwave or on the stove stopping often to stir.
Uszka: For Best Quality, quicker prep time and a classic taste, heat 3-4 qtrs. of water in a pot and bring to a slow boil. Add a tsp. of salt for taste. Place frozen uszka in boiling water and cook uncovered for 2 to 3 minutes or until they rise to the top. Stir occasionally and drain thoroughly once done. Do not overcook.
IMPORTANT: Overcooking will decrease the quality of the dough.
Smacznego!
Received my order promptly with delicious Polish food for our Christmas Eve dinner & everything was absolutely delicious ‚! We will order from Polana again!!
Always a holiday favorite. Exactly what barszcz should be
My dad’s wife recently talked about how she missed making Polish food with her mom (who is from Poland) around the holidays. She recited different Polish meals she used to love eating, and in that moment, I knew I needed to find a place where I could order authentic and nostalgic Polish food to send them for Christmas. Polana is that place. I purchased the uszka and barszcz combo as well as sauerkraut pierogi, potato and onion pierogi, blackcurrant tea, and chocolate gingerbread (there is a $70 order minimum). I live across the country from my dad and his wife but was able to choose exactly when I wanted my package to ship (it I delivers within 4 days of shipping). It delivered precisely on time and right at their front door. Polana was communicative leading up to the delivery. My dad and his wife were ecstatic about the package. They said everything was packed very nicely (it is shipped in a cooler package). So far, they tried the uszka and gingerbread chocolates, both of which they said were absolutely delicious. The food is freezable as well, so anything that is not eaten immediately can be stored in the freezer. I am sure the rest of the food will be equally tasty. Thank you Polana for providing a wonderful experience.
Very tasty and scrumptious.
Delicious!!!
